Ann Hibberd Newsletter April 2019
"Hasn’t the weather been glorious recently. I’ve been out in the garden quite a lot (at least I’m not making the house dirty then) and am also working on some new ideas for autumn workshops. In the meantime I’ve booked some more dates for the centre at St Andrew’s in Clevedon. This new venue is working really well and I’m very happy teaching there.Thank you to those of you who have attended workshops there already, I really appreciate your support and I shall continue with my aim to get the whole world quilting!
Below is a list of upcoming workshops at St Andrew’s, Quilting In The Meadows and Midsomer Quilting. I’ve given a brief description with each workshop but if you’d like any further details just ask.
ST. ANDREW'S
Playing With Dresden Plate - Monday 10th of June 10.00am - 3.30pm. £33
There are many forms and styles of this block. On the day you will learn several different techniques. You can then start to work on your own project (choice of four workshop samples) or carry on making different samples to use at home. This workshop is quicker with a sewing machine but can be done by hand - it’s just slower! Dresden Plate blocks can be made into quilts, wall hangings, bags and cushion covers.
Shadow Applique - Monday 24th of June 10.00am - 3.30pm. £33
A stylised appliqué technique also known as Shadow Quilting. The workshop sample can be made into a wallhanging, cushion or bag panel. Choice of four designs. Hand sewing
Make a Square Box - Friday 5th of July 9.30am - 3.00pm. £35 to include a pre-cut mount board kit.
Make a square fabric covered box from scratch. These beautiful boxes make a lovely gift.
If you would like to book any of these please email me directly.
QUILTING IN THE MEADOWS
Playing With Log Cabin - Wednesday 9th of May 10.00am - 3.30pm
This is the same workshop that I have recently run at St Andrew’s. So many of you wanted to do this workshop that I have run it three times and still have a waiting list. I will be running it again but Debbie has been asked for it to be run in the shop. I’m not sure how many places are left.
Learn how to foundation piece a basic Log Cabin block then move on to other styles of this classic block including Twisted, different shapes and Pineapple. Several samples will be done on the day then you can plan your own project at home. Usually done by machine but can also be done by hand, it’s just slower.
Stitched Postcards - Wednesday 5th of June 10.00am - 3.30pm
A great way to learn new techniques and try new to you products on a small scale. The first part of the workshop is spent learning the various stages of construction and then you can start to make your own little works of art. Sewing machine required (there are some machines that can be borrowed for the day)
Cathedral Windows - Wednesday 3rd of July 10.00am - 3.30pm
A manipulated fabric technique that gives finished edge blocks (no raw edges). Learn how to make a Cathedral Window unit and a Secret Garden unit and turn them into a pin cushion and a needle case. At home, by using exactly the same technique, make more units for wall hangings, cushion covers etc. Hand sewing.
I am also hoping to run the ten week Star Quilt course at Quilting In The Meadows starting in September. We just need to finalise the date!
If you are interested in any of these workshops please contact Debbie or Bryan on 01934 643261
MIDSOMER QUILTING
I am running a Machine Beginners Patchwork and Quilting Course over three one-day sessions. This course covers rotary cutting, strip piecing, quick piecing techniques, making templates, curved piecing, foundation piecing, a very basic introduction to walking foot quilting and machine appliqué. It is designed to be an introduction to piecing by machine and to give students the confidence to try different techniques. All aspects of quilt construction are also covered.
The dates are -
Saturday 18th of May 10.00am - 4.00pm
Sunday 16th of June 10.00am - 4.00pm
Saturday 13th of July 10.00am - 4.00pm
If you are interested in this course please contact De on 01761 239333 or look at their website www.midsomerq.com
I have a website www.annspandq.co.uk but I am very bad at keeping it up to date. I’m full of good intentions to regularly add to it but you know me and technology!
Happy sewing
Best wishes, Ann"
